A short health talk then we walk, all walk at their own pace and all can talk with the doc. What a great walk we had last Sunday with UC Health Neurology coming for Stroke Awareness Month with Neurologist Dr. Janice Miller, as well as stroke coordinators Valerie Matthews and Hannah Hayes, giving us a great talk on stroke awareness and recognizing stroke symptoms followed by how we treat it and how time is so urgent. We were very lucky to have the Mobile Stroke Unit (one of 25 in the country with 2 in Colorado). This specialized ambulance has a CT scanner in it, as well as a nurse, paramedics and CT technologist. It also has telemedicine so that a stroke neurologist can evaluate you at the scene and begin brain saving treatment with medication that can dissolve the blockage causing the stroke, if indicated, saving up to 40 minutes, and millions of brain cells by saving time. This Sunday, May 10, will be a normal walk without guest Dr., just me (and you won't want to miss this one), and I guarantee no rain or snow this Sunday. The last 2 Sundays, however, we will have guests to speakers. On May 17 Dr. Markus Hannan stroke neurologist/intesnsivist and Neurology Nurse Practitioner Candace Baily with stroke coordinators Tiffany Maldanado and Valerie Mathews. On May 31st: Dr. Dan Nguyen with stroke coordinators Rachael Walker and Valerie Matthews will be our guest speakers. The plan again is to have the Mobile Stroke Unit out again on one of those Sundays. And again we will be able to check out the ambulance inside and out...hopefully not as a patient. I hope to see you this Sunday and with this important disability and life saving topic, bring your friends and families.
