Let's tale a walk in Clifton Heights. It is located at the southwest corner of Hampton Ave and I-44. We will meet at the Drury Inn parking lot. Plan on the usual 3 mile walk.

You may see a sign Parking for Bartolino's Osteria. It doesn't open until 3 so there should be no problem. We have parked here before. There is also parking on the road in front of the Drury Inn.

There are a couple of hills on this hike

PLEASE BE ON TIME. IT IS UNFAIR TO KEEP THE OTHERS WAITING IN THE COLD.

Meetup Donation: Meetup charges me $189 every six months to have the Walking site. If you would like to donate $1 at some of the walks, it will be appreciated.

This will be a moderate to easy 3. mile walk. It takes approximately 1.5 hours.

What to bring:

  • WATER – THIS IS IMPORTANT ALL YEAR LONG AND ESPECIALLY IN THE WARMER MONTHS. WE WILL USUALLY BE OUT FOR AT LEAST 1 ½ HOURS AND THAT IS TOO LONG TO GO WITHOUT REPLENISHING THE LIQUIDS THAT YOU WILL BE BURNING WHILE WALKING. – I AVOID DRINKING CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES BEFORE WALKING. THE ARE A LOT OF GOOD ARTICLES ABOUT “effects of caffeine and exercise” ON THE INTERNET OR ASK YOU DOCTOR.
  • Dress in layers (not sure what the weather will do). The top couple of layers should be easily unbuttoned or unzipped to allow easy ventilation. Wear a hat.
  • I recommend broken in hiking shoes over Tennis shoes. A lot of the trails are over loose gravel and dirt and the treads on the hiking boots work much better.
  • Snacks – EAT LIGHTLY BEFORE THE WALK AND BRING A POWER BAR OR SNACK TO MUNCH ON DURING THE WALK.

I will try and make a decision to cancel because of weather by 7:30 am

Clifton Heights is a neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, located along the southwest border of the city and highlighted by a park—Clifton Park (38.6143°N 90.2916°W)—with a playground and a lake.

The neighborhood is mostly residential, with a history dating back to the early 19th century and houses of varying architectural styles, including some Victorians and numerous Arts and Crafts homes. The curving streets surrounding the park and the hills that slope downward toward I-44 are somewhat unusual for St. Louis City, and give the neighborhood a distinctive feeling. Bounded on the north and west by I-44, on the east by Hampton Ave., and on the south by Arsenal St., Clifton Heights is located in southwest St. Louis.

Clifton Heights is home to Mason School an elementary school in the St. Louis Public School System. The neighborhood is in the 24th ward of the City of St. Louis, currently represented by Alderman Scott Ogilvie. The neighborhood holds an annual "Party in the Park" in the fall of each year that features games, crafts, and other family activities. Clifton Heights also features numerous small businesses, a VFW post, and a Drury Inn and Suites at the corner of I-44 and Hampton Avenue that was the subject of much neighborhood controversy regarding the demolition of homes and the placement of a large hotel next to small houses.
