Nov 17 - Route 66 Park
Route 66 They have closed the old bridge into the park. When I was out there recently they had the route into the park well marked with signs. To get to the park take I-44 west take Exit 264 Highway 109. Turn left and go under the highway and get right back on to I-44 east. Take the first exit 265 Williams Road. Turn left on the South Outer Road. At the stop sign turn left and go under the highway. We will meet at the first parking lot that you come to. The trails are very flat. The outside loop trail is 3 miles long with side trails that we can use to make it a little longer. Consider wearing hiking shoes and bringing a hiking pole. Bring water and a snack, and dress for the weather... layers are best, so you can shed some layers if the weather warms up. Afterward, we can find a restaurant for lunch. What to bring: - WATER – THIS IS IMPORTANT ALL YEAR LONG AND ESPECIALLY IN THE WARMER MONTHS. WE WILL USUALLY BE OUT FOR AT LEAST 1 ½ HOURS AND THAT IS TOO LONG TO GO WITHOUT REPLENISHING THE LIQUIDS THAT YOU WILL BE BURNING WHILE WALKING. – I AVOID DRINKING CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES BEFORE WALKING. THE ARE A LOT OF GOOD ARTICLES ABOUT “effects of caffeine and exercise” ON THE INTERNET OR ASK YOU DOCTOR. - Dress in layers (not sure what the weather will do). The top couple of layers should be easily unbuttoned or unzipped to allow easy ventilation. Wear a hat. - I recommend broken in hiking shoes over Tennis shoes. A lot of the trails are over loose gravel and dirt and the treads on the hiking boots work much better. - Snacks – EAT LIGHTLY BEFORE THE WALK AND BRING A POWER BAR OR SNACK TO MUNCH ON DURING THE WALK. Meetup Donation: Meetup charges me $89 every six months to have the Walking site. If you would like to donate $1 at some of the walks, it will be appreciated. Greg Kluempers

What we're about

Join us for a walk on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings! Check calendar for times and locations.

To keep things interesting I will plan hikes in a number of parks in St Louis and St Charles. We will also do walks in various urban areas. I'll try and plan some of the events around other activities that are taking place in our area. After the walks we usually meet at a restaurant nearby or have a picnic to socialize for a while.

All hikers/walkers should be at least 18 years old. Due to some past experiences, dogs are not allowed.

If you are a beginner, I placed a file called Walking Beginner in the More tab then Files tab at the top of the page.

OUR WALKS/HIKES ARE USUALLY BETWEEN 3 AND 4 MILES AND WHILE WE ARE NOT POWER WALKERS, WE USUALLY WALK AT A QUICK PACE. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO WALK 3 1/2 MILES IN ABOUT 80 TO 90 MINUTES.

If you have any ideas send me an email and let us know.
