Chinook Pass - PCT - Sheep Lake and Sourdough Gap 7K/10K Rated 2B/3C

Chinook Pass Overlook Trailhead

Heading north on the PCT at 5400 feet the trail parallels the highway, passing through fields of wildflowers blooming in late July and August. At about 2k the trail enters the forest and fields of lupine before ascending the final 300 feet to Sheep Lake, the turn around point for the 7K. The additional climb to Sourdough Gap at 6400 feet gives you glimpses of Mt Rainier and other impressive views. Be prepared for all weather conditions. Bring lunch to eat at Sheep Lake or at Sourdough Gap. Excellent hike for children.

There is a pit toilet at the trailhead but in case it is not open you may want to stop at Lake Tipsoo Trailhead just before you cross the pass.

This walk for Volkssporters is in the OSB. I will have registration sheets and stamps with me for those that are not registered in the OSB.

All walkers must register for the walk. IVV Credit is $3.00. All walkers are welcome. Donations are appreciated to support events like this.

Dogs are not allowed in Mt Rainier National Park

Cell reception is only available, although spotty, at the trailhead and not available on the route. We will be walking in groups.

From Enumclaw drive east on SR410 to Chinook Pass (44 miles). Park in the large lot on the Left side of SR410. From Yakima drive west (66 miles) crossing Chinook Pass and park in lot on Right. Walk the Trails at Tehaleh 5K/11K Rated 2B (Not a group walk)

The Post / Coffee Bar / Information Center

We are happy to welcome all walkers. To protect ourselves and others, please wear masks and socially distance in the registration area.

This is a Traditional Volksmarch meaning there will be a start window from 9 am to 12:00 pm. Come walk the trails of this newer community. The trails connect homes, parks, and wind through pines, wetlands, alpine meadows, and forests. Parking will be at the school next door to The Post. There will be a 11K route and a 5K route. These are rated 2B meaning some moderate hills and a significant part of the route is on well-groomed trails.

This is a memorial walk in honor of three departed members: Roy Bauska, Charles "Pat" Patterson, and Carlyn Matson of Daffodil Valley Club and Jerry Williams of Evergreen Wanderers Volkssport Club.

Everyone must register before the walk. This walk is hosted by the Daffodil Valley Volkssport Club. The club has costs to put on these walks so we ask for a donation. IVV/AVA credit is available at the customary fee.
