The Marina /Cow Hollow Neighborhoods Walk
Details
Now open for RSVPs. The only cost is $3 cash per adult. Kids free. See legal disclaimer below. The first half of this walk is very easy. First it is downhill to Fort Mason where we will eat our sack lunches. Then it is completely flat for a long way to our half-way point at the Palace of Fine Arts. Then comes the hard part as we go uphill heading East and South back to our starting point. Attendees may leave the walk early without penalty.
Our starting point is on the sidewalk on California Street outside of a Whole Foods Market. There is a cafe there called "Steep Brew Coffee." Bring a sack lunch or buy one at the Whole Foods or another spot nearby. Do not park your car in the Whole Foods parking lot as it will be towed. You might find a free street parking space in Pacific Heights if you spend a long time looking. After 11:10 AM we will start walking North on Franklin St.
We will pause in front of the great Haas-Lilienthal Mansion on Franklin St. Then we will walk by some other interesting old mansions such as one of the 2 remaining octagon houses in San Francisco. We will visit a beautiful community garden full of flowers. We plan to eat our lunch outside in Fort Mason and see historic sites, such as the site of the home of John C. Fremont & Jessie Benton Fremont.
Then we will walk West along a big yacht harbor to the beautiful Palace of Fine Arts. Then we will walk East and see interesting sights such as the magnificent Casebolt House and the Russian Consulate. Then we walk South to our starting point arriving about 4:00 PM.
