Come join us on an amazing weekend on the famous sun-kissed Isle of Wight !

You must TRAVEL LIGHT !

Lets go with the flow !

There are some simply spectacular panoramic views to be had on this most wonderful island !

We are meeting by the TICKET OFFICE very early as Waterloo may be fairly busy on Saturday.

Obviously if you have a Network Railcard I suggest you buy your ticket in advance on Trainline when tickets become available and then arrive at Waterloo by 8.15am.

Likely itinerary :

Saturday

A truly wonderful and very memorable day in store of glorious walking - around 7 miles - and sightseeing as we walk first by the River Yar and then on Tennyson Down that affords fantastic panaromic coastal views and of course visit The Needles - 3 distinctive stacks of chalk just off the coast - and Alum Bay with its chairlift and tremendous coloured sands !

Sunday

Coastal bus :
Meet 9.45am for bus at 10am

A most beautiful undulating 9 to 10 mile coastal walk between Blackgang Chine and Freshwater Bay.

On Saturday please ARRIVE BY 8am in order to purchase open return train tickets to YARMOUTH which includes the ferry crossing but you must use Network Railcard or similar railcard.
There is a change of train at Brockenhurst before taking the ferry.

If you buy tickets in a group ie without National Railcard it will only cover the trains and NOT the ferries.

Or you can buy your train ticket in advance.

We shall be staying Saturday night in Shanklin so please book your hotel on booking.com as soon as you can.

Train ticket : Open return to Yarmouth

Meetup fee £30 payable in cash or in advance by bank transfer which will afford you with a season ticket for 25/26.

The walk attracts no meetup fee for those who already hold a season ticket for 25/26 ( £45 as from Ist April 2025 )

Train from Waterloo is at 8.35am.

Please bring packed lunch, water, snacks etc plus walking shoes/trainers as well as waterproof jacket and sunglasses, suncream and sunhat.

The walk shall start IMMEDIATELY on Saturday after departing the ferry so please use the toilets on board the ferry.

We shall first walk 3 miles by the River Yar and then have lunch in Freshwater Bay.

After lunch we shall walk along Tennyson Down that affords the most incredible panoramic coastal views, indeed one of the very best coastal walks in the British Isles.

We shall spend some time in The Needles and Alum Bay before taking the bus back to Shanklin.

On Sunday we shall take the bus to the start of the walk and take a bus from Freshwater Bay back to Yarmouth at the end of the walk.

You should be able to walk 2.5 miles per hour and have adequate and appropriate insurance for this type of activity.

We should be back in London on Sunday by 8.15pm.
