Bodysnatching in Southwark

Details

In March 1718, an early body snatching scandal hit the parish of St Saviour's, today called Southwark Cathedral. Who were these resurrection men and the surgeons who paid them, what was the attitude of the law, and how did the ordinary person try to save their loved one from the anatomist's table?

Join us at Southwark Cathedral as we hear the story of the St Saviour's incident, and discover how the changing nature of medical education in the age of enlightenment led to a money making opportunity for many enterprising London grave diggers. Kirsty Chilton is the assistant curator of the Old Operating Theatre Museum and Herb Garret.

This is a free event but please register with the venue HERE (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/kirsty-chilton-bodysnatching-in-southwark-tickets-32430520560?invite=&err=29&referrer=&discount=&affiliate=&eventpassword=) if you wish to attend. Your RSVP on Meetup is so I know to meet you.
