Rachel Harris: One Woman Over The Line
Uptown Knauer Performing Arts Center, West Chester
February 8, 2026 @ 2:00

Earlier this year, many Wanderbugs participated in the historic Underground Railroad walking tour and learned about the powerful and often overlooked stories that live right here in our own region. This moving performance brings one of those stories to life in a deeply meaningful way.

One Woman Over The Line is a multimedia dance production by West Chester Dance Works that tells the true story of Rachel Harris, an enslaved woman who fled to freedom through 19th century Chester County. Her journey is brought to life through a blend of dance, narration, music, percussion, and projected historical imagery.

The performance is grounded in real historical accounts of the Underground Railroad in Pennsylvania and highlights the courage, resilience, and humanity of those who risked everything in pursuit of freedom. It also honors the local history that still echoes throughout our own communities today.

This is not simply an afternoon at the theater. It is an opportunity to witness storytelling, remembrance, and education through art. It is especially meaningful for anyone who joined the walking tour, as well as for those who value thoughtful cultural experiences and deeper connection to history.

The show starts at 2:30, but we will meet in front of the theater at 2 PM so that we can sit together - tickets are general admission. After the show we will head to The Tomato Shack (formerly the Couch Tomato) for an early bite to eat. Please plan ahead and bring cash in case the restaurant is not able to issue individual checks.
