Come to Chesterfield's Brandenburg Park (https://chelibrary.evanced.info/signup/EventDetails?eventid=10590) to observe the Great American Partial Solar Eclipse over Michigan with the Chesterfield Township Library (https://chelibrary.evanced.info/signup/EventDetails?eventid=10590) and Bob (https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/ssa/biography.cfm?US_ID=1014)and Connie (https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/ssa/biography.cfm?US_ID=1192)Trembley - both volunteer NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassadors (https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/ssa/home.cfm) and members of the Warren Astronomical Society (https://www.meetup.com/warrenastro/). There will be solar-safe telescopes and a batch of solar glasses for safe-viewing of the Sun.
11:00 PM Event starts at the park
1:04 PM First contact — when the Moon makes contact with the Sun; signaling the beginning of the eclipse.
2:26 PM Maximum Eclipse - the Moon will cover about 80% of the Sun.
3:47 PM Fourth contact — when the Moon breaks contact with the Sun; signaling the end of the eclipse.
Warning: NEVER look directly at the Sun without using solar filters. Michigan is north of the eclipse path of totality; people in the metro-Detroit area will see a partial solar eclipse, with the Moon covering about 80% of the Sun. It will still be bright enough to cause damage to your eyes.
Note: There is a fee to enter the park, unless you have a pass.
