Mtg & Talk: Astronomy Factoids
Details
The Warren Astronomical Society meets monthly on the third Thursday in Room 208 in the "E" building at Macomb Community College, 14500 E 12 Mile Road, Warren, MI, 48088.
We do a bit of club business early on, then have a major presentation usually put together by one of our members.
Feature Presentation: Astronomy Factoids
I have always been fascinated by the trivia around astronomy.... how big, effects of gravity, speed of light, distances in space, and of course the search for life beyond earth. I have an assortment of these factoids that I use when presenting to schools, scouts, and general public. I will share these topics with the audience. While these topics may be mostly familiar to our seasoned members, they will be interesting to our newer members and I am sure our long time members will find them fascinating.
Bob Berta retired in 2004 from Pacific Gas and Electric company after 36 years. He started as an Electrical Engineer, but moved into Electric Construction Supervision, and finally in the Law Department as a Safety, Health, and Claims Supervisor.. He also had a side business as a professional photographer. He is an accomplished performing musician on organ, keyboards, and his favorite instrument, accordion. Bob also found time to race bicycles as a USCF licensed road cyclist for many years. Even though he is now 78 years old, he still keeps in shape with swimming, cycling, hiking, and kayaking. He is married to Nancy and has 5 children ranging from 26 to 52 years old, 4 grandchildren, and a great grand daughter. Bob served as every officer position of the club at least once except for treasurer. He is also a member of the Oakland and 7 Ponds clubs and served as VP of the Oakland club for a few years. He is still a member of the San Francisco Astronomy Club and served as president for two terms when he lived in California. He enjoys outreach in astronomy, is a Solar System Ambassador for NASA/JPL and is an avid astrophotographer.
