- Wednesday Waterfalls-Battle Creek Falls (And maybe a guided rappel)Battle Creek Falls, Pleasant Grove, UT
Important reminder for all Meetup members!
If you've signed up for an event but can no longer attend, please be considerate of those on the waitlist and remove yourself from the "Going" list promptly. This will help us ensure that everyone has a fair chance to participate and make the most of our events. Let's all do our part to keep our community respectful and considerate of one another. Thank you!
Come participate in a run through Battle Creek falls to get out of the heat. We will meet at the Pavilion just north of the parking lot. The falls are a little over a half mile hike from the parking lot right off the main trail. The waterfall itself is only 50’ tall so this a perfect place to attempt your first waterfall descent.
The waterfall can be rapped off a large bush or trees above it. We will build an anchor on either the bush or a tree behind it. There are also numerous bolts on the cliff wall approaching the waterfall. We may use those to set up a guideline anchored to a large tree below the waterfall or for those who would rather stay dry and stil Rappel. If you plan to run the waterfall you may want a wetsuit, but it is short and sweet so if the temperature is high you may not need one. I will bring 3 ropes. Feel free to bring a rope as well. If time allows we will be able to rappel the falls more than once.
Required Equipment: water, harness, helmet, rappel device, self rescue equipment and carabiners. Optional Equipment: webbing, quick links, pocket knife, figure 8 or other blocking device, rope, VT prusiks or ascending device, personal anchor.
Dress appropriately for warm weather (warm weather attire, closed toe shoes that can get wet, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, and whatever else you may need to stay comfortable for the day).
- No +1 RSVPs. If you know someone who would like to attend, please have them join the meetup group and sign up using their own account.
- If there is inclement weather we will try other options.
- Restrooms will not be available.

We will be at Sand Creek in Torrey, UT and only 12 miles from the Capitol Reef Visitors Center. A group tent site is available. There are cabins and RV sites available as well. Showers will be available along with bathrooms, etc. The cost is $85 dollars for the event, per person, in addition to the camping that you will cover on your own. Spaces are limited to approximately 40 tents. Please keep your tent size to a minimum and maximize the space. Most will arrive on Thursday night and stay until Sunday.
You are responsible for all food, camping gear, fees and canyoneering gear including harness, helmet, descender, ropes, safety tether, locking carabiners, closed toe shoes minimum, wetsuits, etc. Hiking at a reasonable pace is required. Elbow pads and knee pads standard equipment.
The annual Swedish Crepe Potluck tradition will continue this year!!! The Perfect Potluck will be provided so you can sign up for an item to bring. Dana and I will make the crepes! Also, don't forget the annual raffle where all attendees can win some really fabulous canyoneering gear and stuff!
The Thursday start time implies that you should arrive Thursday night if you want to run a canyon on Friday. You can arrive and leave as needed. There will be canyons to descend Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Sunday canyons will be short canyons so people can get on the road. At the latest, you should be ready to leave camp by 8:00 am each morning and prepared as needed for the canyon you will descend that day. Some departure times will be earlier. Each member will sign up for canyons the night before or early in the morning before the group leaves. There is a pavilion that will be our hub.
You can coordinate with the people in this group and arrange carpools, camping arrangements, among other things. Don't be deceived by the length of the canyon. Some locations will require shuttles or drives that will make many canyons a full day. Bring your wetsuit!
BONUS: FRIDAY, Shane will provide a full day of training for anyone that wants to learn the basics of canyoneering and then put it to use on Saturday and Sunday. I need to know if anyone is interested prior to the event.
