The Bonneville Salt Flats, just east of Wendover in western Utah are not just world famous for land speed records. These crusty playas have also been made famous by hundreds of movies and product commercials that have been filmed there...
from automobile promotions, to perfume and fashion commercials and everything in between.

And the movie clips...
don't get me started!
That includes movies such as Star Wars & Independence Day, the World's Fastest Indian & Pirates of the Caribbean, amongst many, many others.

Recently, Keanu Reeves was filmed in an episode of 'Riding with Norman Reedus.' They hit the flats on Harleys, and road tripped down to Helper's historic main street.

These west Utah desert landscapes are a photographer's dream. Replete with lost horizon and spacial perspective, depth of field views, that ad drama to every photo.

Years ago I worked 'on set' for a British Airways commercial made there that was magical. And I've made some interesting secret discoveries in this area since, that I'd like to share with those of you that can appreciate big wide open skies... We'll see magical hidden views and secrets that people fly by at 80mph without a clue of what they're missing?! Beauty... just beyond the shoulder of the highway.

Details
Some carpooling for a short distance to get to camp may be necessary. Four wheel drive or higher clearance SUVs are helpful but not required. If you will be arriving late , please inform me of that by text, or in meetup messages, as I will have to coordinate arrival times and camping location with you. (Camp location made known to paid attendees only).

Signup:
RSVP's are open to those interested in attending. Those signing up will be INITIALLY WAITLISTED. Think of the waitlist as a standby list. This trip is open to 18+ and 14-18 who like hiking and are accompanied by an adult. The cap for this trip is 20 attendees.

Priority is given to those that communicate via text. Send meetup message to give or get text number. One-fourth of the 'going' slots will be reserved for first-timers, until two weeks from beginning of trip. Then all remaining slots will be open to waitlisted folks. If possible, we would like to achieve a more balanced gender ratio on this trip, so women do not feel intimidated from participating.

A $15 deposit is required for this trip (to cover trip and meetup costs). Until this fee is paid, you will remain on the waitlist (standby) list. $10 is refundable, if you cancel before the trip start. No shows can request a $5 refund.

Optional Sunday Bonneville Raceway 'World of Speed' Racing event costs $25 pp admission (not paid to us) Paid to Salt Flats 'World of Speed' (SLFRA) racing weekend paid at the gate.

In recent years' 'world of speed' events were clocked at 427 and 442mph. So you'll see some pretty fast cars. Faster than Nascar, Indy and Formula one...

General overview
Wade will be leading this trip... as well as others, as deemed necessary. However, as with all successful events, this trip's success depends on a group effort.

All participants are responsible for their own camp gear, supplies, food and drinks for the trip. Bringing 1-2 gallons of water per person per day is recommended.

If you do not have Venmo, arrange payment with any of the event organizers in person. You are not signed up until payment is received.

Itinerary:
We will camp on a secret pristine section of the playa Friday night, enjoying a fire ring and starry sky, sharing each others' company. Then we'll hike out into the horizonless abyss on Saturday, after a leisure breakfast enjoying the views, while waiting for late arrivers... We'll then track the ill fated Donner Reed party that ambled by on to California and their doom, after following 'Hasting's cutoff...

Then we'll take an exploration hike or two in the Silver Island Mountains. Later, we will watch a mirage laden, lost horizon sunset, and enjoy the stars of the milky way band, with a dark skies view of the milky way nebulas...

Then on Sunday, after packing up, we will go hit a breakfast buffet in Wendover.
Then go watch the fastest cars on the planet, as they attempt to set new speed records at the Bonneville raceway. And, we'll walk the pits, chatting with the racers and crews...

Then afterwards...
depart back to our lives and... gulp... work.

Lastly... We are committed to making this an event where all attendees are safe, comfortable and made to feel welcome, regardless of gender, race, political or religious affiliation, or inclinations. Occasional respectful conversation about diverse, or even controversial subjects is not discouraged, provided it is respectful and courteous. Vulgar, rude or disrespectful conversation or behavior, will not be tolerated. Our ultimate objective... is to make this an epic, enjoyable, enlightening, and rewarding trip, shared by friends that love participating in the outdoors together.

Attendees that have intel, knowledge, ideas or talents that they feel would help make this a more rewarding and epic adventure, are encouraged to bring such, to the organizers' attention.

This trip requires a communal effort for success.
