NOTE: Meetup is back to Saturday this month!
We're back! We hope everyone had/is having a wonderful summer of rest, relaxation, and repeat Who. Now that we've had our restful summer vegging out by the pool with popular fiction, it's time to dive back into the real world and tackle some of the many weighty questions that plague us on those long sleepless nights. So grab your "brainy specs" and start thinking great thoughts as we choose from some philosophy themed Who episodes:
The Space Museum - The First Doctor, Vicki, Barbara, and Ian jump a time track and land at their destination... before they arrived. With a glimpse into the future at a grisly fate, they must come to grips with free will and determinism as they try to avoid what might be in store.
Warriors' Gate - The 4th Doctor, Adric, Romana, and K-9 attempt to escape from E-Space and find themselves in a white void, which prompts a whole lot of conversation about the ancient Chinese I Ching philosophy and the role of chance in our lives.
Kinda - The 5th Doctor, Tegan, Adric, and (sorta) Nyssa arrive on Deva Loka and get caught up in a very surreal tale of primitives, clocks, madness, circles, mirrors, wind chimes, and snakes. But apparently, it's all about Buddhism.
The Fires of Pompeii/Kill the Moon - There are (surprisingly?) no episodes of Who revolving around steering trolleys, but there are tons of Trolley Car Problem-like stories out there. The 10th Doctor and Donna are forced to choose between doing nothing and allowing all of history to be undone or blowing up Vesuvius and destroying Pompeii. Then, the 12th Doctor and Clara have to decide between killing a rare lifeform or destroying the human race. Sorta?
When you RSVP, please rank the four options above in the comments in the order of preference (1 being "Yes! I am dying to see it!" and 4 being "Meh."), and we will abide by the choice of the attendees.
For the Meetup itself, we ask everyone to bring something to drink and something to eat (snacks/munchies - you don't need to bring a whole ham or something!) to share with the group. We'll have food and drink as well and maybe a themed cocktail if the inspiration strikes...
We are a couple blocks from the Columbia Heights Metro (15th and Harvard NW). We'll provide the full address ahead of the event. Note also that we are a walk-up - two flights of stairs.
Looking forward to seeing everyone!
