WASI for blocks and Wasm for sand @ Oasis Labs

Details

This month we're hosted by Oasis Labs. We have two talks from Nick Hynes and Max Bittker.

The Meetup will be recorded and videos will be linked here after the event.

6:00pm - Doors open
6:30-7:15pm - Blockchain-Flavored WASI, Nick Hynes
7:30-8:15pm - Building Sandspiel - an Interactive WebAssembly experience, Max Bittker

About the talks:

Blockchain-Flavored WASI

Nick Hynes will explain the details of his recent work developing and implementing WASI for the blockchain. Compared to the alternative approach of creating yet another Wasm interface, WASI allows blockchain developers to tap the resources of the broader developer community. In this way, we can imagine a future in which the immutability and integrity provided by blockchains are simply another set of tools in a cloud developer’s toolbox.

Building Sandspiel - an Interactive WebAssembly experience

Max will share his experience building https://sandspiel.club/, a falling sand game optimized for the modern web. He'll highlight how the simulation was powered by WebAssembly, and the benefits of using Wasm. Finally, Max will show how effective it can be to combine Javascript, Rust, and WebAssembly together according to their own strengths.

About the speakers:
