Benjamin Lloyd invites improvisors with some experience to join him in exploring long form improvisation. This class will encourage students to create characters that live “close to them” (me not me), as well as characters that are different. We will investigate what happens when we improvise without any desire to be funny (spoiler: it’s occasionally hilarious anyway!) Ben will teach two forms in the class: open format, and The Sun and its Planets - a form he created in Philadelphia. Specific skills taught will include planting and developing “seeds” in a story, the principals of slow improv, living in the pause, dueling monologues, and tilting a scene dramatically or comically.
