Easy/Moderate 2 night Backpacking on the AT. Planning to meet at in the Humpback Rocks Parking Lot at the base of Humpback Rocks near milepoint 5.8 just south of the Visitor Center. We'll leave some vehicles there and carpool to Dripping Rock parking area (room for just a few vehicles). Tue. hike will be appx. 2 miles to Wintergreen Overlook. Please note there is NO WATER, PIT TOILETS, or SHELTER. You'd need a tent/hammock whatever your preference and water to last till mid day Wed. Wed will be a mix of flat to moderate uphills with a side hike to Humpback rocks and on to Paul Wolfe Shelter appx. 8 miles. There is a Super Moon that night. Thur. we'll backtrack about 3 miles and out to Humpback Rocks where we'll return to whatever vehicles are at the other end.
This is a very doable backpack. the terrain is no more than moderate. I had hernia surgery on Aug 29th so it's my 1st post surgery hike. Please note this is a Tue/Thur trip. If anyone would like to attend and meet on Wed at Humpback Rocks overlook, hike and camp overnight at the shelter that would be great. I'd just need to know. The appx. 1 mile hike up from the Parkway is steep.
