To ensure everything runs smoothly for our main in-person event at Locust Grove in Poughkeepsie on May 18th, we are hosting a dedicated AMA (Ask Me Anything) and prep session. This is your opportunity to meet the team, understand the workflow, and help us coordinate our efforts to make the biggest impact possible for our students.
What to Expect During this session, we will:
- Introduce the Team: Meet the organizers and fellow mentors.
- Review the Process: Walk through the event schedule (from the 1:00 PM opening to the 6:00 PM awards).
- Address Challenges: We will use your feedback and suggestions to finalize our planning.
- Theme Deep Dive: Discuss this year's theme, "Digital Champions for Social Good: Tech That Solves, Communities That Thrive," and how to guide students in identifying community challenges.
Important Technical & Classroom Constraints This hackathon has unique operational requirements that we need to prepare for:
- Environment Restrictions: Per CSTA guidelines, New York State schools currently ban the use of AI tools, and students often operate within strictly whitelisted resources.
- Hardware: The majority of our high school participants will be working on Chromebooks.
- Mentor Requirement: Since we plan to assign a mentor to each team to provide hands-on guidance, please plan to bring your own laptop to the hackathon on May 18th to ensure you have the tools needed to support your team.
Who is Joining Us at the Youth Hackathon? While our key audience is Hudson Valley high school students, we are also welcoming college students to join the hackathon. Your role as a mentor is to help these students move from "whiteboards to working prototypes," creating real digital artifacts in a single afternoon.
RSVP We look forward to seeing you on May 6th to answer your questions and build the foundation for a successful Digital Rally!
