In October, Arcady celebrates Hacktoberfest: an online, community-driven event where developers from around the world contribute to Open Source Software.

The entire digital world relies on open source – more than 99% of all software ever built depends on open source components.
Hacktoberfest began eleven years ago to raise awareness about open source software. Engineers are encouraged to make at least four contributions to open source projects.

These contributions can be anything from a small bug fix, a new feature, or even writing a piece of documentation—anything that adds value to the community.

At Arcady, every developer uses thousands of open source building blocks daily to create new software. That’s why we invite you to take on the Hacktoberfest challenge!

And yes, it was a no-brainer to host OPEN SOURCE == OPEN DOORS on the evening of Thursday, October 9th! You are warmly invited to join us at our office for an evening of fun, networking, and coding!

A number of Arcadians will be present, working on their Hacktoberfest contributions, guided by experienced Open Source contributors. The evening will be relaxed and informal – feel free to come and go as you please. Just interested in grabbing a drink and having a good conversation? You're welcome too!

For this edition, we want to focus sessions on AI! How is AI impacting your organisation or the way you do your work? How do you use it to solve new problems, or existing problems in interesting ways? We want to welcome new perspectives!

You do not want to miss this event! We have invited Amber Vanderburg, famous speaker, author and founder, to travel all the way from the US to deliver us a fantastic keynote titled "VAR, AI Referees, and the Future of Code Reviews". How does VAR in soccer connect to AI-powered code reviews? In this session, Amber explores how AI can improve fairness, speed, and quality in Pull Requests - while showing why human judgment remains essential - so you’ll leave with smarter workflows, practical strategies, and a playbook for making every review a winning call.

Next, Arcadian and Microsoft Certified Trainer Maarten van Diemen will present "Cutting Dev Toil with GitHub Models and GitHub Actions", which teaches you everything you want to know about removing boring work from your developer life with GitHub Models and Github Actions.

Finally, Marin Niehues, Founder & Principal Consultant, will also cross the Dutch border from Germany to bring all these sessions together by giving his session: "AI Is Easy - until you add people: Inside the Chaos of Implementing AI". It's all about the unfiltered reality on actually implementing AI on a global scale, the importance of the human aspect, and what to do and what to avoid to guarantee a successful project!
