This is the largest free-flying US flag (150 feet long by 78 feet wide) and is hung each year in Coldwater Canyon in North Ogden for nearly two weeks at the beginning of November.

The hike is approximately 5 miles round trip and is a tradition around Veterans Day in November. The trail is a moderate hike to view the massive American flag honoring former Mayor Major Brent Taylor.

From the Brent Taylor Memorial Foundation website: Each year during Veterans Week, a giant American flag—known as “The Major”—has unfurled in Coldwater Canyon, Utah, standing as a breathtaking tribute to the men and women who have served our country. This iconic display is a reminder that service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
From miles away, the sight of “The Major” soaring over the canyon has been a powerful expression of gratitude, unity, and patriotism, bringing the community together in remembrance.

The Wednesday night crew hiked to the flag in the dark this week. Sunday's hike is for people who want to see the flag in the daytime.
