Lunar Photography Hike at Islay Hill

“How do you photograph the moon with a smartphone?”

As some of you know, I’m trying to start a business teaching smartphone photography and creative thinking. That includes answering questions sent through my website. When Karen, one of our hike leaders, asked about lunar photography, we both recognized the chance to practice in person.

The business is in development; meanwhile, come enjoy a free hike up Islay Hill and back. At the top we’ll talk about the tools and techniques for using iPhone and Android cameras to photograph the moon.

We will return after sunset but before it's fully dark. However, I recommend bringing a headlamp or flashlight for the return hike.

Note: Inclement weather may postpone the photography, but not the hike. We’ll keep you posted.

Essentials

• Where: Trailhead at the end of Sweetbay Lane (see Meetup map)
• Pace: Casual
• Terrain: Moderately steep with a few rugged parts
• Distance: 2 miles out and back, elevation gain about 500’
• Trail map: Gaia GPS
• Dogs: Yes, on leash

Bring

• Sturdy shoes
• Water
• Smartphone or other small camera
• Flashlight or headlamp, just in case
• Sense of fun
