What we’re about
This group will meet to discuss one of the weird movies on the 366 Weird Movies List and Apocrypha (https://366weirdmovies.com/the-weird-movie-list/). We can go beyond that list too -- nothing is set in stone.
Half of the time, you will watch the movie on your own and then come to the meeting to discuss it. In the other meetings, we will watch the movie together and then discuss it.
See this spreadsheet for information about the 366 Weird Movies List and Apocrypha, including where you can find the movies streaming (though lots of that information is out of date.) 366 Weird Movies + Apocrypha: streaming info last updated 5/24/21 - Google Sheets

"Underground" Discussion: Watch it at Home First
Pryes Brewing Company, 1401 West River Road North, Minneapolis, MN, USI feel like we have a strong enough group for me to try the more obscure movies. "Underground" (1995, director Emir Kusturica) is undeservedly obscure, I think: It's a wild and wacky absurdist dark comedy. Don't be scared off by the length (2 hours and 47 minutes) and the country of origin (Yugoslavia); "Underground" is a load of fun.
Watch "Underground" on your own and come ready to chat about it. It's on Kanopy and it's rentable: Underground streaming: where to watch movie online?.
We'll meet at Pryes Brewing, which has lots of space and isn't very noisy. It's near downtown Minneapolis but has plenty of parking. I'll get there around 6:30 p.m. and claim a table on the opposite side of the bar. Get a drink and then head to the other end of the building, to one of the long tables near the risers. It's quietest there and there will probably be a long table free. You'll be able to identify me by my black baseball cap that says "Weird Movie Club" on it.
And feel free to sitemail me to recommend another movie for a future meeting. You can go by the official list from the website 366 Weird Movies (366 Weird Movies + Apocrypha: streaming info last updated 5/24/21 - Google Sheets) or suggest something else.20 attendees
"Zazie dans le Metro" Screening and Discussion
Saint Paul Public Library - George Latimer Central Library, 90 West 4th Street, Saint Paul, MN, USNot all French New Wave films are serious! "Zazie dans le Metro" (1960) is a fun, wacky movie starring an endlessly charming 10-year-old girl.
I'll get to the library at 1:30 p.m. and try to set everything up in time for a 2 p.m. start. Get there early so you don't miss a minute. The library closes at 5, so we'll have to wrap up discussion before then. Discussions tend to last no more than about half an hour, but maybe it will last longer this time if we break into smaller groups and make it feel less like a classroom.
It's all free. We'll be in the Andy Boss Community Room on the 4th floor of the George Latimer Public Library in downtown St. Paul.
Street parking is possible, but you might consider using the light rail. A great place to park and ride is the Western Avenue stop of the Green Line. There's always parking on Aurora Avenue, one street south of University.
And feel free to sitemail me to recommend another movie for a future meeting. It would be great if you wanted to host and lead discussion too. You can go by the official list from the website 366 Weird Movies (366 Weird Movies + Apocrypha: streaming info last updated 5/24/21 - Google Sheets) or suggest something else.17 attendees
"Videodrome" Discussion: Watch it at Home First
Pryes Brewing Company, 1401 West River Road North, Minneapolis, MN, USOf all of David Cronenberg's films, "Videodrome" might just be the Cronenbergiest. Extra points if you can watch it on videotape.
Watch "Videodrome" on your own and come ready to chat about it. It's rentable on Amazon and Fandango; at this writing I don't see it for free anywhere.

"Son of the White Mare" Screening at Trylon and Discussion at Arbeiter Brewing
The Trylon Cinema, 2820 East 33rd Street, Minneapolis, MN, US"Son of the White Mare" is a trippy, colorful animated Hungarian film from 1981. If you like watching movies under the influence, this would be a good time for it.
We're seeing it at the Trylon Cinema, so you'll need to get a ticket. I imagine you'll be able to get a ticket at the door, but just in case you can reserve tickets through trylon.org.
After the movie, I'd like to bring everyone a couple of blocks north to Arbeiter Brewing for the discussion. It'll be cold, but the walk from Trylon to Arbeiter takes less than 10 minutes.
I'll get there around 6:30 p.m. There's always street parking available around Trylon.
And feel free to sitemail me to recommend another movie for a future meeting. It would be great if you wanted to host and lead discussion too.
