When Mindfulness Meets the Nervous System: A Trauma-Informed Somatic Approach to Presence
presented by Stacey Madden MSME/T (ISMETA) - SE (adv) - MFT
October 1, 2026
Mindfulness does not happen outside the body. Our capacity to be present is shaped by our nervous system, our stress responses, our histories, and the way our bodies have learned to protect us.
In this presentation, Stacey Madden will explore mindfulness through a trauma-informed somatic lens. Together, we’ll look at how survival states can affect attention, breath, stillness, emotion, and our ability to feel connected to ourselves and others. Rather than treating mindfulness as something we have to “do right,” this talk invites a kinder, more embodied approach — one that honours the body’s signals, supports nervous system choice, and makes space for curiosity, compassion, and self-trust.
The evening will include accessible teaching, gentle somatic practice, and practical takeaways participants can explore at home. No previous experience is needed, and all bodies and nervous systems are welcome.
