From Psychology to Spirit:
How Internal Family Systems Supports Mindfulness
presented by Michael McKernan Registered Social Worker, MSW, RSW, CSAT
October 15, 2026
For those of us curious and perhaps a little desperate to answer the call for life beyond our narrow, our self referential worlds, mindfulness is a promising path. Not an easy path... Internal Family Systems is a type of psychotherapy, founded by Richard Schwartz. I have found it to be an accessible and practical way of allowing our struggles to be door ways into spiritual growth through mindfulness.
I will provide a basic description of IFS and how it supports the practice of mindfulness. I will draw upon my experience as a psychotherapist and the practice of mindfulness as I have encountered it in diverse spiritual traditions.
