February Bike Tour: Ojai

Details

Hello Adventure Riders,

The date is set! Thank you for participating in the poll. We will be going February 6th.

We will be meeting at Ventura's Amtrak Train station. Across from the station, there will be overnight parking if you are planning to driving to Ventura.

Transportation: The train will cost $36 from San Diego or $21.60 from Los Angeles with a AAA membership. Without AAA it will be $40 and $24 respectively. This is only for a one way ride. There are 2 trains to catch: train 1761 will arrive at 9:35AM or train 763 will arrive at 11AM. You are responsible for your own reservations so please check Amtrak.com for more information. Remember to add a bike with your trip.

If anybody have some space in their car, please let us know in this trip's conversation. You could save money just carpooling and splitting the cost of gas.

Camping: We will be camping at the Dennison Park campgrounds ( http://www.ventura.org/inland-parks/dennison-park-ojai) . I am still waiting to hear back from them about reservations. Since this is the offseason, we may just get up there and occupy 2 spots at the day of. Maximum occupancy is 6 individuals per site.

Costs: Please be prepared to pay for transportation, food, and camping. See notes about trains and carpool above for transportation costs. For food you can either bring your own or have cash ready as we will have a stop at the grocery store right before we get on the bike path up to Ojai. Camping will be $40 for 2 campsites split by all attendees. If you're planning to bring your dog, that's an additional cost of $1 for each dog. We can only have 2 dogs per site maximum.

Waiver: Please fill out this waiver and send it completed back to me by email: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8bI_x7qLtmnMEdKNDJQbjB4bDQ/view?usp=sharing. I am at johnny at milestonerides dot com. I need to have these before we start our trip.

Routes: I will work on 2 routes. One will be on paved road which will be along Ventura River Trail and Ojai River Trail. The other will be an off road option where will be riding up on fire roads and entering from the east side of the park. The off road area is a bit challenging but really scenic. I recommend riding with knobby mountain bike tires but it's not required. I will be riding the off road option. Routes will be posted here later in the week. I will also bring with me turn by turn directions. We will all go back as a group on the paved road the next morning.

Weather: If the forecast on February 5th has a 40% or higher chance of rain, we will have to cancel our trip. It is for our own safety and comfort. Any chance of rain will also cancel our off road ride. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather!

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me or anybody on this trip. Several of us have already done this trip last year and had a real good time even with rain at the end.

Cheers,
Johnny
