Post Thanksgiving Ride to San Diego
Details
If you can't make Thuan's epic ride this year, then I invite you for this post-Thanksgiving ride. Feel free to join in just one day or the whole trip. We'll be stopping by plenty of restaurants and stores every day.
Day 1 - Saturday (34 mi): Lets meet on Shoreline Village Drive by the Yard House. If you are coming from LA, the Metro Blue Line goes from 7th & Metro station to Downtown Long Beach Station. Its a short walk / ride from Downtown Long Beach Station to shoreline village. We'll be camping at Crystal Cove campground in Newport Beach. The last couple miles is a hike-a-bike to the campground. The campground is primitive. The campground is BEAUTIFUL. Bring all your food and water in and pack trash out. We'll stop for lunch and also at Trader Joe's before riding up to camp.
ALTERNATE: You can start at ARCTIC station in Anaheim and ride Santa Ana River Trail to the end. We'll meet up around 11:30 am when you get to Huntington Beach. Plan at least 90 minutes to ride to meetup point.
Day 2 - Sunday (52 mi): This will be the biggest day. Breakfast stop at the Beachcomber at Crystal Cover. Due to the the restrictions at Camp Pendleton, we'll either ride the 5 fwy, OR hop on the Metrolink from San Clemente to Oceanside. If you can still camp with us for day 2, then we camp at South Carlsbad State Beach.
Day 3 - Monday (28 mi): Breakfast stop at Potato Shack Cafe. Riding to Old Town San Diego. We can get our hotel rooms and have dinner at a Mexican restaurant.
As for gear to bring, pack warm clothes. There are plenty food stops along the way. Bring cooking gear if you want to make your dinner. Reserve your train tickets (with bike) in advance recommended.
