Details

59 miles and 5875 ft climbing. Riding through remote areas with no service most of the day. This ride is recommended for riders training for a bikepacking race. Do not attempt.

Logistics: Metrolink train 1261 departs from Newhall station at 8:32 am. Start ride from Vincent Grade Acton station at 9:30 am. We should make it to Mill Creek Summit (Pacifico Mountain Trailhead) by 11:30 am and eat lunch there. Then we'll head up Mt Gleason Rd and will be backcountry riding/pushing for most of the day. We should arrive back to civilization before sunset. Dinner at In-N-Out and dedicated bike path riding in Santa Clarita. Ending at Newhall station.

20 miles of riding on rocky fire roads. Must carry extra tubes/accessories and be able to repair mechanical problems. Be prepared to carry 3 liters of water and bring snacks/lunch. Satellite communicator recommended.

This is NOT a guided trip led by a professional guide. Group organizer is simply a person who loves bike travel and would like to share a bicycle adventure with others. If, for any reason (non-life threatening/non-major injury) you are unable to continue with the ride/outing as planned, then you will most likely be expected to be self-sufficient in returning to the starting/end point, or getting back home, on your own. Be prepared for this scenario and pre-arrange for someone to come get you in the event that this occurs.
You should know how to pack for days of camping with no services. Your bike should be checked and ready to go out into the middle of nowhere. Verify your tire sealant is good, as well as, tires, brakes, and chain There is no formal instruction included in this event, but group members/organizers do share what we know freely and are all willing to support one another as fellow adventure cyclists. Attendees are ultimately responsible for educating and equipping themselves with the appropriate knowledge/skills for this ride.
