About us
Westbank Real Estate Investors is a local real estate investing community serving Greater New Orleans and the Westbank.
Our vision is to create a real estate investor ecosystem where members can attend free meetups, access practical resources, and accelerate progress to their next level of investing. Whether you are working on your first deal or your 1,001st, this group is designed to bring people together to meet, teach, learn, and share with others who can help move them closer to their goals.
The group was founded by Emile Hurst Jr. in 2019 and, after a brief pause during Covid, was relaunched in 2021 with Stephen Keighery becoming a co-organizer and leading community growth and marketing. The group meets monthly, with Emile interviewing local investors who share real-world experience with the group.
Our meetups are free to attend and are built around:

• Local operators doing real deals
• Open networking across experience levels

## his Month's Speaker: Building Wealth Without Quitting Your Day Job
John is proof that you don't need to quit your job to build a successful real estate business!
He works full-time at a power plant on rotating shifts, but has managed to build a 13-door rental portfolio, flip 7 properties in the past year, and get into wholesaling along the way.
His journey started in 2010 with a simple house hack, renting out a mother-in-law apartment to help cover his mortgage.
Over the next 16 years, he's built his experience across long-term rentals, Airbnb, mid-term rentals, renovations, flipping, and wholesaling. He's now even tackling a major historic renovation and exploring historic rehabilitation tax credits.
What makes his story interesting is that it wasn't an overnight success. He spent years steadily acquiring properties, learning the business, and balancing investing with a full-time job and family. Then, after getting more involved in the local investor community, things really started to accelerate.
We'll be interviewing him about how he got started, how he financed and grew his portfolio, what he's learned from his flips, the challenges he's faced, and how he manages to do it all while working full-time.
Whether you're trying to get your first deal done or grow an existing portfolio, there should be plenty to learn from his experience!
