Speaker Series: Rewriting the Code of Life with CRISPR

With the revolutionary tech called CRISPR, we’ve entered a new era of genetic manipulation in which diseases and cancers could be erased, but so too could heritable genetic changes be engineered in human embryos. The award-winning biochemist Sam Sternberg will discuss cutting-edge research in gene editing and what it means for humanity.

Samuel H. Sternberg runs a research lab at Columbia University, where he is an assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics. Sam's lab explores the biology of CRISPR-Cas systems. Together with Nobel prize winner Jennifer Doudna, they wrote the acclaimed book, A Crack in Creation: Gene Editing and the Unthinkable Power to Control Evolution.
