Kaaterskill High Peak - Catskills

Details

I tried this once and the response was limited. A few people have asked so we will try this again.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - do not sign up for this hike unless you plan to attend - for some of you -a great time to break out of your comfort zone and drive 2 hours for a hike -you can do it.

Note: This is the first time I have led this event.

Estimated Group Size - No more than 14 - That is a condition or requirement within the Catskills

Estimated Distance 7.5 to 9.5 miles depending on final route - estimated elevation gain - around 2000 ft for the day - depending on the final route

I used an estimated end time of 3 - Depending on the final route, it may be earlier

Meetup Location - Kaaterskill High Peak Lot - N42.1619 W74.0806

Turn onto Bloomer Rd. off Route 23A just west of Tannersville. At the Y in the road bear left onto Platte Clove Rd. Continue on this road passed the Catskill Bruderhof and pull into the parking lot for Kaaterskill High Peak. Look for the aqua-blazed Long Path.

Follow this trail for 1.05 miles where the Huckleberry Point trail goes off to the right. Stay on the Long Path as it winds its way up the mountain for another 2.1 miles. This route goes around to the north side of the mountain where a very obvious path leads up to the loop snowmobile trail that goes around the peak. Make a right on the snowmobile trail and look for a well-traveled path to the left. This will take you the .5 miles to the top. At the very summit of the High Peak (3655 ft.) there is no view. If you walk off to the east or south views open up in both directions.

What to bring - Food, Snacks, Hat, Micro Spikes - Poles, hat, - change of footwear and perhaps change of clothes for ride home - also a paper or large plastic bag for your hiking boots.

Suggested Donation - $2.00

Please check in with me if this is your first event with the group

Everyone starts on the Wait List - I just want to make sure this is the right fit.

If there is interest, I will consider a carpool out of Mount Kisco or a park n ride off 84

8 more miles!
