Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz (http://www.mbosc.org/) (MBoSC) is happy to announce a new venue for theSanta Cruz Mountain Bike Festival (http://www.santacruzmountainbikefestival.com/) (SCMBF), which will return to its roots in the city of Santa Cruz. Now in its sixth year, the festival will run at San Lorenzo Park on April 11-12, 2015—the weekend before the Sea Otter Classic (http://www.seaotterclassic.com/) in nearby Monterey.

THE SHOW MUST GO ON
Debuting at Depot Park in Santa Cruz in 2009, the festival moved to the Barry Swenson Builder property in Aptos Village in 2010, where is was immediately embraced by the Aptos community and grew exponentially over the course of its five year run there. The venue included the world-renowned Aptos Pump Track and Post Office jumps, and the pump track contest and Post Office jams were a crowd favorites every year.

Temporary in nature, this bike park was recently closed (learn more here (http://adventuresportsjournal.com/biking/an-inspired-farewell-to-the-iconic-post-office-jumps/)) and although we’re disappointed to lose this beloved venue, we knew this time was coming and we’re grateful to Barry Swenson Builder for their support over the years. MBoSC President Mark Davidson reflects, “Both the pump track and the jumps were a huge draw for the festival and I’ll never forget all the joy and wonder the competitors and spectators had at these special places.” He adds, “MBoSC thanks Barry Swenson Builder for generously allowing us to run our event on their property, and for providing the community with these spectacular places to ride.”

The new venue, San Lorenzo Park, is in the heart of downtown Santa Cruz. Situated along the San Lorenzo Park Riverway multi-use path, it’s a relaxing 1.5 mile pedal to the popular Emma McCrary Trail built by MBoSC and opened in June 2013. This new location will allow for an expanded Kids’ Rodeo, accommodating two separate age groups to enhance the riding experience for children. SCMBF Festival Director Justin Beck says, “We’re excited to bring the festival to San Lorenzo Park, a great new location that ties together the heart of downtown and easy access to endless miles of world class singletrack. The park benchlands will be a beautiful place to enjoy a day of music, food, beer, and of course bikes!”

FAMILY-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER
The Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festival was created as an MBoSC fundraiser to celebrate the world class mountain bike facilities, riders, and cycling industry of Santa Cruz county, with proceeds benefiting local bike projects. The event grows year after year with the generous support of our sponsors, volunteers, and community. In its fifth year, the 2014 eco-conscious, family-friendly festival drew over 9,000 attendees and 400 registered participants. The success of the event is a testament to the depth of the mountain bike culture in Santa Cruz County.

This year’s volunteer-run festival will include bike demos, skills clinics, expanded kids’ area, a poker ride, aerial jump bag, vendor fair, beer garden, food court, bands, raffles, and much more.
