Pleasanton Ridge Adventures (Intermediate / ~20 miles / ~3200+ ft / C+ pace)
Details
Reminder that this day marks the end of DST. Enjoy your additional hour of sleep :D
Pleasanton Ridge is a huge park with many fun trails. There are numerous very tough fireroad climbs. EMTB recommended.
Meet at Foothill staging area around 9:20. Wheels roll at 9:30.
Route
Climb to the ridge and head north along Ridgeline and Thermalito. From there, we have the 4 DH loop options:
- Augustine Bernal DH: Technical DH with many optional features. Rutted and washed-out on the top half. This trail is steep and takes a long time to climb back up.
- Bayleaf north: Steep trail with some tight switchbacks at the end.
- Bayleaf south: Similar to Bayleaf north. Slightly tighter switchbacks and some jumps.
- Valle vista: Scenic and flowy, good for the family. A bit of exposure, though.
We finish the ride with Meadow Pond Trail followed by a final festive descent.
Each DH costs 600-800 ft of climbing. Doing all four will be approximately 20mi and 4000ft. Planning to 2-3 of them depending on the group and condition.
There are a couple of bailout points for people with limited time/leg/battery. All bailout routes involve riding along Foothill Rd.
Difficulty: Intermediate. Expect narrow, loose, and steep trails with tight switchbacks at places. Climbing here is very steep.
Pace: C+. We start and end together and regroup at every intersection (there are a ton of them!). I'll bring one rope for the analog rider on steep climbs.
Bring:
- Lots of water. There is not much shade during the entire ride :(
- Helmet
- Water and snacks
- Trail-side repair tools
- A well-maintained bike.
Keeping the group small for easier navigation. Please be reasonably sure you are coming before signing up to leave room for others. Dropping off at the last minute is NOT cool!
Guest riders are not allowed, this ride is for WCMB members. If you have a guest, please have them join. Liability etc. Thank you.
NOW THE NITTY GRITTY...
West Coast Mountain Bikers is a group riding community. We don't encourage individuals to come out to our rides that want to do their own ride five minutes after starting with us. We start together and stick together.
If new to our group, please take the time to read our Ride Rating Guide, found at the link below.

All of our rides require a helmet and properly maintained mountain bike.
Riders should be sure to read the description of the ride fully prior to their RSVP. Rides will vary by location and organizer, so be sure to sign up for rides that are appropriate for your skill and fitness level. If unsure if an event is appropriate, contact the event host prior to the event. If you have an existing medical condition please consult your doctor prior to joining an event.
Meetup.com and West Coast Mountain Bikers do not allow minors to attend events. We will occasionally make exceptions, so long as the parent is also in attendance.
The event host and organizers ultimately have the last call on who can and cannot attend a particular event. When a members safety is concerned we will always err on the side of caution.
