Fort Ord Watkins-2-Goat (22 miles / 2500 ft / C pace)
Details
Come join me on a big ride at Fort Ord before the next round of storm hits and forces us home staring longingly at bikes and shake fists at the sky :P
Bring a rain jacket as weather can be unpredictable. Spare dry clothing if you would like to join the team for lunch. We ride slow and long. If you have a schedule to catch this ride might not suit you.
We meet at the W Camp St and Watkins Gate Rd intersection at around 9:20. Wheels roll at 9:30.
Route: Goal is to ride all the way to Goat trail and back. Tentative route: C26 - 15 - 62 - 50 - 49 - 41 (Goat) - 36 - 42 - 80 - 84 - 82 - 62 - 56 - 23 - C32. Route subject to change depending on weather/trail conditions.
Fitness: Adv-Intermediate. Total: 22mi with ~2500ft. Lots of climbing some of which are pretty tough. Good fitness required and bring easy gears.
Skill: Low-Intermediate. Expect sandy trails with occasional rocky sections and optional features. Most trails are not too steep.
Pace: C. We regroup at every intersection, take it easy on the climbs. Go slow and go long. If you have a schedule to catch this ride might not suit you.
Bring:
- Rain jacket and water-resistant pants.
- Helmet
- Water and snacks
- Trail-side repair tools
- A well-maintained bike.
Guest riders are not allowed, this ride is for WCMB members. If you have a guest, please have them join. Liability etc. Thank you.
NOW THE NITTY GRITTY...
West Coast Mountain Bikers is a group riding community. We don't encourage individuals to come out to our rides that want to do their own ride five minutes after starting with us. We start together and stick together.
If new to our group, please take the time to read our Ride Rating Guide, found at the link below.

All of our rides require a helmet and properly maintained mountain bike.
Riders should be sure to read the description of the ride fully prior to their RSVP. Rides will vary by location and organizer, so be sure to sign up for rides that are appropriate for your skill and fitness level. If unsure if an event is appropriate, contact the event host prior to the event. If you have an existing medical condition please consult your doctor prior to joining an event.
Meetup.com and West Coast Mountain Bikers do not allow minors to attend events. We will occasionally make exceptions, so long as the parent is also in attendance.
The event host and organizers ultimately have the last call on who can and cannot attend a particular event. When a members safety is concerned we will always err on the side of caution.
