Day of the Dead Textile Sculpture

Get ready for Dia de los Muertos with your own skeleton sculpture! In this class you will create your own calaca, a skeleton figure with clothes and personality commonly used to decorate for Day of the Dead.

A skull head will be provided and you will choose the details of who you want your calaca character to be. You will learn how to sculpt with fabric, apply hardening medium, paint, and more to create this 12 inch character to take home.

We will be taking a 45 minute break midway through the class for dry time. There are several tasty local options nearby for food or coffee, if you like. After the break, you will learn how to apply final painting techniques and adding detail elements.

This workshop requires an additional supply kit fee of $45 once you arrive at the workshop. This can be paid through Venmo, paypal or cash, and will cover everything you need at a discounted price. The cost of the entire workshop comes to $68.18 total ($20 space fee +$3.18 Eventbrite fee+ $45 kit fee at the workshop).

You may bring your own specific finishing details you may wish to incorporate into your sculpture, such as dried flowers, ribbons, trims, wood beads, seed pods etc. They must be porous materials; so no plastic, rubber or silicone.
