Memorial Park Picnic & Lantern Launch
Join John & Venus: Picnic & Lanterns, June 14, 4:44 PM, Free!
Gather for a community potluck picnic at Memorial Park to enjoy the sights of the Water Lantern Festival. Whether you choose to watch the lights for free from near our picnic spot or purchase a lantern to launch, it’s a beautiful evening of reflection and light. This is a dry gathering. The Event Guide
4:44 PM | Arrival & Setup: Meet at Memorial Park pavilions A/C. Park in the lot behind the 7-Eleven at 331 S Hancock Ave. If parking is scarce, use Venus’s house at 412 S Hancock Ave. John and Venus will arrive early to save a spot.
5:15 PM | Pray & Eat: Bless the food and begin the potluck. John and Venus will provide plates, cups, plastic silverware, and water. Please bring a dish to share and your own picnic seating.
5:30 PM | Lantern Festival Check-in: Festival gates open at Prospect Lake (1605 E Pikes Peak Ave) for those who purchased tickets. If you want to launch a lantern, buy tickets ahead of time ($30.99) at the Water Lantern Festival website.
7:20 PM | Lantern Decoration: Ticket holders can design their lanterns. Those staying at the picnic can relax and enjoy the park atmosphere.
8:30 PM | (sunset is at 8:25 PM) The Launch: Watch the lanterns drift across Prospect Lake. We will have a great view for free from near our picnic location!
9:10 PM | Closing Reflections: Enjoy the final glow of the lights on the water. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.— Matthew 5:15 (NIV).
9:30 PM | Depart: Collect all personal items and leftover food.
