Why Guru? — Conversations for the Spiritually Curious
A weekly discussion group for people who want to talk about faith, doubt, and meaning without being sold anything.
Right now each week is built around the day's Hukamnama — a passage from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, taken as it falls — and an honest conversation about where it lands. As the group grows, we'll work through the Basics of Sikhi "Why Guru?" video series together, one short video a week: why anyone needs a Guru, what the Guru actually is, what it means to follow a path. Either way, the reading or the video is the prompt, not the point. Discussion is where this group lives.
Who this is for:
• Anyone spiritually curious, from any background or none
• People who've heard of Sikhism but never really understood it
• Sikhs who want to think out loud rather than repeat what they were taught
• People from other faiths interested in interfaith conversation
• Anyone who enjoys big questions and honest disagreement
What you don't need:
No background in Sikhi. No Punjabi. No belief. No preparation. Just bring one question.
How it works:
Wednesdays, 6:30 PM ET, on Zoom, about an hour. We open and close with a few minutes of quiet simran (listen, join in, or just sit, nothing is required), read the day's Hukamnama, go round with introductions every week so nobody is ever the new person, then talk. I'm based in Tampa, FL, and if there's enough local interest we'll add in-person meetups.
How we talk:
Ask anything. Speak for yourself. Nobody's here to convert you or rescue you. Challenge ideas as hard as you like; don't mock people or what they hold sacred. Disagreement is welcome, contempt isn't.
Recording:
Sessions are recorded and edited highlights are shared on YouTube and social media (@125kcybersingh). You only appear if you say yes on the night. Camera off and initials means you're not in anything we publish. You can change your mind anytime.
About the host:
I'm new to Sikhi myself. I started the Why Guru? series looking for answers and found it opened up better conversations than I expected, with people inside my faith and outside it. I'm not a teacher, a scholar, or anyone's guide — just someone still working it out who'd rather do that in company.
