Note, this hike has limited space and is posted on multiple forums so you MUST contact the trip leader, Jim, directly by phone or e-mail to register.

Join us for a hike up Bear Creek outside of Colorado Springs. We’ll visit an area which has been designated Outstanding Waters by the State of Colorado. This designation is the highest of three levels and requires strict anti-degradation protections.

The stream is one of only two in the Pikes Peak region that has been so designated and is home to the only naturally reproducing population of greenback cutthroat trout.

We will learn about the history of this creek, why it qualifies as Outstanding Waters, and how it is being protected. We will also learn about efforts by Wild Connections and partners to obtain this protection for additional stream and river segments in our region.

This hike will be approximately 6 miles round trip with 1,600 feet elevation gain and is rated strenuous. Bring lunch, water, raingear, and clothing suitable for the weather conditions.

For more trip and carpool information and to register, contact Jim Lockhart, 719-385-0045 or jlock@datawest.net.
