Padilla Bay Shore Trail - 4.5 miles along the shoreline

Details

An estuary at the saltwater edge of the Skagit River Delta - 8 miles long and three miles across, and this trail covers part of it.

I chose a low tide day for us!
Supposedly there is a huge tree near the trailhead where a pair of bald eagles sometimes hang out.

The name Padilla — 'breadpan' — was given to the bay by Spanish explorers, although native people had long taken advantage of the natural abundance of food found here.

Great blue herons can frequently be seen hunting in the muck around an old barn and closer to the water.

Carpool recommended, since it is a long drive. Meet at the parking lot of Starbucks off the Fairhaven Parkway Exit of I-5 at 9:15 am.

Restroom at trailhead!
