So many people I talk to are craving intentional community right now. Many are researching or even living in established communities but haven't yet found the right fit.

Twenty years ago we bought 21 acres of farmland in a rural community to build our dream life with our young family. We homeschooled and raised animals, but doing everything ourselves wasn't sustainable and after 8 years we had to give up the farm.

Now my grown children and I all live in the city, yet we haven't given up the dream of being part of a healthy, innovative, supportive community.

I'm excited to start having conversations with others who share a similar vision.

For our first meetup, we will read and discuss an article from The Meta Project titled On the Necessity of Rebuilding Social Structure. The article explores how modern social structures have eroded, why that loss is so costly, and practical considerations for rebuilding community in grounded, sustainable ways.

"While the plethora of problems besetting our modern world is fairly well understood, there is little discussion of the source of these problems, let alone actionable solutions for solving them. There are many who would point to corrupt politicians, greedy merchants, or self obsessed social activists, but the simple fact that people like this are allowed to operate is cause for reflection. How did society become so weak that evil like this has been allowed to thrive?"

Optional preparation:
Read the article - On The Necessity of Rebuilding Social Structure
Listen to a podcast about the article - A New Counter Culture: A Guide to Rebuilding Civilization

We will be exploring questions such as:

  • What have we lost?
  • What actually makes social structures work over time?
  • How do we rebuild without becoming overly ideological, exclusive, or overambitious?
  • What does starting small and local really look like?

Who this is for:

  • Those exploring intentional community, cooperative living, homesteading, or village style life
  • Systems thinkers who enjoy seeing how everything is connected
  • People open to differences in values and perspective

This is simply a discussion group to share ideas and resources. If this topic has been on your mind, we would love to have you join us and add your perspective. We'll see where the conversation takes us!

***Note: This conversation will be recorded and shared with our community. ***
