What we're about

This group is aimed at anyone roughly in the 20 to 40 age range around the Winchester area, we organise a bunch of difference social events each month that you are welcome to attend. Come along, make new friends, have fun, do stuff!

Importantly, the membership fee is one beer for Lyndon upon request ;)

We have regular Meetups throughout the year like drinks nights and a monthly pub quiz - both of which are a great way for new members to meet and mingle. We also keep a regular calendar of seasonal events including:

* SUMMER: Hat Fair Saturday / A big group picnic/lawn games day
* AUTUMN: Halloween / Bonfire Night events
* WINTER: Secret Santa Sunday Lunch / German Market Meetups

Alongside that, we have our big two payday New Members Nights:

* At the end of Jan/start of Feb - when everyone's finally got cash again post-Christmas
* And in September - when the city seems to see the largest no. of newcomers

Dotted around all of that you'll also find bespoke one-offs pop up now and then.

Favourites in the past have included:

* Geocaching walks
* Restaurant dinners
* Board game nights
* Lazy day pub gatherings
* Cinema outings

Plus some more adventurous outings further afield, like:
* Country walks
* Bank holiday city trips
* Roller discos
* Water park bookings
* Camping weekenders

Since Meetup changed the permissions, only group admins can post Meetups. Booo!

However, our organisers are a friendly enough bunch. Some of them even communicate using words instead of grunting and pointing! So please do contact one of them if you have either a vague idea of something you'd like to do, or a more concrete plan for a Meetup - whether it's from the list above, or something new altogether. Alternatively, if you'd like to gauge interest, try the discussions board. (It's all very civil and mature. Honest).

If you'd like to get involved in posting and hosting on a regular basis, let us know on the site or at a Meetup. We're particularly on the lookout for at least a couple of female organisers, so if you'd like to help keep the group ticking over with ideas and social plans, please drop Lyndon a message.

Chilli and Cheese Festival 2021

North Walls Recreation Ground

Tickets are £6.90 each. Sales end on the 5th August so don't leave it until the last minute.

Let's spend a few hours at the annual Chilli and Cheese Festival. Lots of things to see and do. Food and drink stalls, crazy golf, competitions etc.

Meet inside the main entrance at 10:30am on the Sunday. If you arrive later put a message on this page and I'll let you know where we are.

The event is in the field behind the old leisure centre. Walk around the path behind it, past the tennis courts, over the small bridge. There will be lots of other people walking in that direction so you shouldn't have trouble finding it.

Tickets are limited so get yours now.

There is free parking in Chesil Street Multi-storey car park on Sunday. Other car parks now charge a small fee.

Remember to buy the Sunday ticket!

Walk up St Catherine's Hill

Garnier Road car park

Let's go for a walk up and around St Catherine's Hill just outside Winchester.

We'll meet at the small gravel car park at the bottom, which can accessed from Garnier Road. You can try to park here but it's usually full. The park and ride is not far away and will be a few £ to park. There are paths to cut through from there.

Bring appropriate footwear and a decent set of lungs as the steps can be tough. There's a lovely view of Winchester from the top.

Weather dependant. I'll update this the day before if it's on or not.

Mushroom foray in Selborne 🍄🍄

The Selborne Arms

Something a bit different. A walk around the woods by Selborne to find some interesting mushrooms and learn about them. No prior experience necessary. I've been interested in mycology for a few years now and can talk about the ones we find.

Meet in the big car park behind the Selborne Arms pub at 11am. We can spend 2-3 hours out in the woods.

We'll walk up the zigzag path to the woods at the top and hunt around. Mid-October has been very productive for me in the past.

Bring appropriate footwear and clothes for October. The zigzag path is a bit of a trek but once you're up there's no more difficult terrain. Dogs welcome.

Weather dependant, if it's going to rain, or if it's been too dry as there won't be any mushrooms. I'll update the day before if this is happening.
