Doers Club: Film | Making & Appreciation š¬
Details
Welcome to Doers Club: Film | Making & Appreciation, part of our new Doers Club series presented by Wisdom Tree Forumā¢.
Do you love watching films? Have you ever wondered what goes into making one? Maybe you've written a screenplay, picked up a camera, acted in a short film, experimented with editing, attended film festivals, or simply found yourself thinking about a great movie long after the credits rolled.
Whether you make films, aspire to make one someday, or simply appreciate cinema, this gathering is for you.
The goal of Doers Club is simple: to bring together people interested in exploring a skill, hobby, craft, or creative pursuit and learning from one another's experiences. You don't need to be a filmmaker or know anything about cameras, screenwriting, or editing. Curiosity is enough. š¬ Let's watch. Let's create. Let's appreciate film together.
š Schedule
4:00 PM ā Meet & Connect
We will meet at their back patio. We'll begin by getting to know one another and discussing topics such as:
š¬ What makes a film memorable or meaningful to you?
š„ What does it actually take to make a film, from an initial idea to the finished product?
āļø How do screenwriting, directing, cinematography, acting, editing, sound, and music come together to tell a story?
šæ How does knowing more about filmmaking change the way we watch and appreciate movies?
šļø What films, filmmakers, genres, or cinematic styles have influenced or inspired you?
š± Can you make something meaningful with limited resources, even with just a phone and a good idea?
š How can someone interested in filmmaking get involved, even without previous experience?
š“ What local filmmaking groups, classes, screenings, festivals, theaters, and other resources are available?
6:00 PM ā Visit to the Frida Cinema
At ~6:00 PM, we'll take a quick visit to The Frida Cinema, a local nonprofit independent cinema and gathering place for film lovers. We'll explore the theater, learn a little about this unique local film community, and continue our conversations about filmmaking and film appreciation in a setting dedicated to cinema.
Whether you're a filmmaker, actor, writer, photographer, editor, film student, devoted moviegoer, or someone who is simply curious about how movies are made, we'd love to hear your perspective.
Feel free to bring recommendations, stories about your own filmmaking experiences, information about local resources, or even a short piece of your own work that you'd like to tell others about.
Please note: This is not a filmmaking workshop or film screening. The focus is on connecting people interested in film, exchanging experiences and recommendations, discovering resources, and developing a deeper appreciation of both the creative process and the finished art.
About Doers Club
Doers Club is a Wisdom Tree Forum⢠series dedicated to exploring hobbies, skills, crafts, and creative pursuits through conversation and shared experiences. We gather at parks, breweries, restaurants, cafés, and other local venues to learn from one another and discover new interests.
Each event focuses on a single hobby or skill. One month it might be pottery, another month journaling, astronomy, meditation, woodworking, gardening, photography, or even building an AI agent. The goal is not mastery, but exploration, appreciation, and connection with others who share your curiosity.
Come discover new passions, exchange ideas, and enrich your social experience.
