This hike is for fit and confident hikers only. No unfit, injured, unwell or recovering hikers please.
The bush will be bursting into life after the rains and the hike will certainly make you earn your coffee afterwards.
The hike begins with a sturdy downhill section on the Biblumun track, Helena bridal trail and other trails, we then climb up and along a ridge before descending to the Helena river below where we cross over. From here follows a VERY VIGOROUS HILL SECTION at Nyaania creek it includes SERIOUSLY LARGE ROCKS to scramble over and around as well as technically challenging uneven and rocky riverside goat tracks and a crossing of the Nyaania creek. Once we complete the Nyaania section we cross back over the Helena river and hike back along uphill to the beginning.Where
At the end of Spring Road Kalamunda (Click the pin drop on the map for the exact location to use on your GPS)
Distance
13km. Elevation gain 539m and almost 3 hours of walking time, 4 plus hrs if you come for a coffee after.
Difficulty
VERY DIFFICULT in parts. Incorporating VERY VIGOROUS HILL SECTIONS and SERIOUSLY LARGE ROCKS to scramble over and around. Not overly long but this trail does have 539m of elevation with rocky uneven and technical trail sections. it is for Fit hikers only - not a route for first timers or those recovering from injury or illness ....

OK, put on your hiking shoes and come and join me for a nice walk in the park.
With slightly cooler temperatures we should have a very pleasant hike. Expect some light showers overnight but we'll be fine in the morning but I'm taking my trusty umbrella. 😀 With recent rains we should see water cascading over the 2 falls.
This walk is a gift as it keeps on giving and will never disappoint. We start at the historic Swan View railway platform. A short walk and we go through the old Swan View railway tunnel (340m long) and then down to Rocky Pool. Up the hill to Eagle View Lookout and we’ll stop to catch our breath as we take in the vista. Down into the valley through the forest to the National Park Falls and keeping along the picturesque north bank of Jane Brook we do a slight detour beside the many pools as we head to the John Forrest Tavern (ruins) before we make our way to the highest point of our walk at Hovea Falls. Turn back and follow the very easy Railway Reserve Heritage Trail gently downhill and then back to our cars.
There are no national park entry fees payable for this walk.
Late morning coffee at Pa's Patisserie and Café. Great coffee, yummy food and friendly staff.
Where: The lower car park near the old Swan View Station (Click on map for the exact meeting point)
Parking: Plenty of parking near the pin drop.
Distance: 12.5 km, 282 m Elevation Gain & about 3hrs walking
Difficulty: Some slightly steep sections in the beginning to make it more interesting but the walk back is a doddle. It would be classified as moderately difficult intended for regular walkers. Please only come if you're hiking fit.
What to bring: A headlight for the tunnel, water, good hiking shoes, hat & sunscreen (poles if you want)
Toilets: Toilets and water at the JF Tavern ruins (8.5km mark).
Café after the walk: Join us for a coffee, a bite to eat and chat at Pa's Patisserie and Café, 2km due west along Morrison Rd. They are open on Saturday.
All trails maps: Check out our intended route on this link.
