My Body, My Friend - A Daily Conversation

Make it a daily practice to sit with yourself, just you and your body, like dear friends who haven’t seen each other for a very long time.

Join me as I share and practice with some practical tools, techniques and strategies for developing a relationship with your body. Online: 3 pm (MDT)

Self regulation, ie, being able to calm the nervous system, is not a one time thing... similar to the waves of the ocean, our emotions, our self-generated biochemicals and hormones fluctuate, up and down, in and out, strengthen and weaken according to our response to the environment, to our circumstances. Learning to “go with the flow” is not just cliché, it’s a reality for our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Our bodies are fluid organisms, masterfully designed to handle the fluctuations for the most part... but we must reconnect with the body - we must be in conversation with the body - in order to assist in its ability to deal with stress, to be resilient.
*
This level of conversation is not a one way or one time thing in which we tell our bodies what to do. Our bodies have a mind of their own, so to speak, and have been running in default, primal, survival mode for far too long.
*
This level of conversation is an active listening, a purposeful engaging with thoughts, feelings, sensations... that perhaps we have not allowed ourselves to deal with for years, if ever... It takes time to have this kind of conversation.
*
It takes a level of attention and focus and willingness to hear the whole story, as if you were listening to a friend or lover. It takes a level of kindness and compassion that we don’t usually give ourselves.
*
If we want to develop a relationship with the body - in order to really be of help to ourselves, to our loved ones, to the world - we must slow down, be still, listen, be open, be willing to be vulnerable, befriend ourselves again, carry on a deep and meaningful conversation over and over and over again.
