About the Panelists:
- Maritza Diaz - Maritza Diaz is the CEO of ITJ, formerly Sr. Director at Thermo Fisher Scientific. With over 25 years of experience in IT and Software Engineering, she is a leading voice in software industry cross-border collaboration between San Diego and Baja. She’s recognized as a 2022 CEO Rising Star by San Diego Business Journal and is on the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
- Dana Caulder - Dana Caulder is the Executive Director of the Research Informatics & Software Engineering department within Genentech Research & Early Development (gRED). She leads a globally distributed scientific and technical community that catalyzes and engages in scientific innovation by connecting people, processes, technology, and data at scale to accelerate the discovery of life-changing therapies. Dana is passionate about building and being part of diverse, empowered teams that drive the development of modern, data-centric architectures to integrate data capture, storage, access, and analysis across diverse stakeholder needs. Dana received her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Russian from the University of South Carolina and then moved westward to pursue a Ph.D. in Chemistry at UC Berkeley with Ken Raymond. Following her Ph.D., she completed a postdoc at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab in the Actinide Chemistry group, after which she made the unusual switch to software development in the biotech industry. Over the course of her career at Genentech, Dana’s contributions to DE&I and developing talent have been recognized by the Genentech Women Professionals groups via Dana receiving the 2014 GWP Emerging Leader and 2019 GWP Professional Development awards.
- Alyss Weissglass - Alyss Weissglass is a member of Benchling’s Customer Engineering team, a team of client-facing engineers focused on integrating Benchling with external teams, databases, and machines. Alyss received her Bachelor of Computer Science and Arts (BCSA) from Carnegie Mellon University in 2018 and has taken her love for cross-discipline communication and pedagogy into the sciences. For her work cofounding Benchling’s queer Employee Resource Group, she was the recipient of Benchling’s Equality Champion Award in 2022. She is passionate about software, diverse and equitable spaces, clear communication, and the transformative power of storytelling.
