5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Join us for a special reveal and opening reception to launch the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation’s 2024 public art commissions. Be the first to see Hedgework by Marek Walczak (Civic Space LLC), Mark Shepard (Center for Architecture and Situated Technologies) Antonina Simeti (Timbre Consultants), with Robbie Lee and Wes Jackson; and Transforming America through Art: A Vision for Brooklyn’s Community by brothers Steven Ladd & William Ladd.
The evening will highlight the newly commissioned work and provide members of the community with an opportunity to meet the artists and fabricators behind the public art installations while enjoying food and refreshments. The team behind Hedgework will be creating a live "hedgerow soundtrack" at Building 77, while visitors to Building 92 will be able to contribute to a word wall exploring the community's hopes of the future.
Through an open call process in the fall of 2023, BNYDC invited local artists, designers, and fabricators to submit their proposals for public art in the forecourts of Building 92 & Building 77. Creators were asked to respond to the theme of “transformation.” Proposals went through a juried selection process with members of the selection committee drawn from BNYDC and community partners with public art expertise from BRIC, DCLA, Downtown Brooklyn Parternship, MoCADA, Roulette Intermedium Inc, and The Invisible Dog. The public art will be on view through November 10, 2024.Directions
