Film: Janet Planet (2023)

For the first film club event, I've chosen "Janet Planet". Janet Planet is a 2023 American coming-of-age drama film, written and directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Annie Baker in her directorial debut. It stars Julianne Nicholson as Janet and Zoe Ziegler as Lacy. The film is set in 1991 in rural Western Massachusetts and follows 11-year-old Lacy as she spends the summer at home with her mother, Janet, and observes the three enigmatic adults who enter their lives, captivated by Janet's nature.

I'm a sucker for an A24 film and Julianna Nicholson is consistently amazing. This one looks potentially slow-paced but hopefully odd in all of the right places.
