Film: On Becoming a Guinea Fowl (2024)

Details
For this event, I've chosen "On Becoming a Guinea Fowl". In On Becoming a Guinea Fowl, a middle-class Zambian family gathers for a funeral after the death of an uncle. Amidst the somber rituals, a young woman named Shula, played by Susan Chardy, begins to challenge the prevailing silence and questions the circumstances surrounding her uncle's death. As the funeral progresses, long-held family secrets and uncomfortable truths begin to surface.
The film explores themes of grief, complicity, and generational trauma within the context of a family struggling with tradition and the implications of speaking out against abuse within a culture that often values silence.
Another A24 film (I know! I promise to stop) that looks thought-provoking. I'm particularly interested in the storytelling aspect and how it addresses the trials that women face.
