The Women of Bermondsey herstory Guided Walk!

Details

Bermondsey is a place that was rarely visited for leisure prior to the early 2000s. In fact until the 1980s much of the docks were pretty untouched and dilapidated. The locals had a strong sense of community and the women were the backbone of that community.

But these women were more than mothers or sisters they were fighters and trailblazers.

The first London female Mayor came from this area, the first Doctor to carry out a caesarean worked here and the women of Bermondsey instigated the largest strike in the history of Britain! Don't mess with a Bermondsey broad is how I would describe it.

In addition you get to see the docks area, the crossbones graveyard, a pub featured in Chaucers Canterbury Tales.
