What we’re about
THE FINE PRINT - PLEASE READ IN FULL:
We are a warm and welcoming group, so have no fear attending your first event! Events will be held in and around the greater Boston area, on both weekends and weekdays, and include dining out, walks/light hikes, historic house tours, botanica, museums, local theater, movies, bowling, etc. Suggestions and event co-hosts are welcome and encouraged!
All events are attended at your own risk. Note that I am a volunteer, and by attending any event you agree not to hold me, any event host or co-organizer, any other member or our heirs, or the Meetup organization, liable for any illness or injury sustained at one of my events.
GROUP RULES:
I know this is a LOT of information, but it's just about everything you'll need to know.
- PROFILE PHOTO: All members must have an identifiable, *recent* picture of just their face ("head shot"). Please, no sunglasses or hats.
- PROFILE NAME: All members must have their real first name or the name you like to be called, and ANY word, name, number or symbol after your first name that differentiates you from others with the same first name. It doesn't have to be your own last name or initial. This makes it easier for me to find you on Meetup to send you a message.
- FOR DINING EVENTS: Please bring cash (one $20 and mixed smaller bills) to facilitate easy payment of the bill when we can't get separate checks (near Boston with a large group, we usually can't). We add 27% to the cost of our meal, for tax and tip. Feel free to round up!
- FOR TICKETED EVENTS: Everyone goes on the waitlist until you post a comment that you have bought your ticket. Please don't join the waitlist unless you are relatively sure you will attend. People tend to forget they are on waitlists. For those events, whoever gets a ticket can go, up to any attendee limit or when tickets sell out (first come, first served).
- DUES: To help cover the Meetup Organizer fee ($300+/year), following a 90-day free trial, annual dues are $6.00 per person if paid via Meetup (Stripe), or $5.00 if paid directly to me. See below for payment details.
- UNPAID DUES: Meetup will remind you a few days before your dues are payable, and will automatically remove unpaid members from the group after their trial period ends, or if not paid by the renewal date shown in your profile. That will also remove you from any events you are signed up for. You can always rejoin the group, but you won't get another free trial period or regain your spot on the "going" or "wait" lists. If you find that you can't sign up for an event, aren't getting notifications about our events, or see a red box asking you to "Request to Join," that may be why. I also try to notify people when their dues renewal date is coming up, but you should watch it too.
- CANCELLATIONS AND NO-SHOWS:
- If you cannot attend an event for which you purchased a ticket, please post a comment on the event page if you want to offer the ticket for sale to the waitlist. Of course, you are also free to offer your ticket to a friend or relative (just let me know!).
- If you are unable to attend any event you registered for, please change your RSVP at least 24 hours in advance, to allow someone from the waitlist to attend.
- If you are a member who habitually registers and cancels or doesn't respond to my messages about an event, and there is a waitlist for an event with women who always show up, I reserve the right to move you to the waitlist in exchange for one of those regular attendees.
- Of course, things sometimes come up on the day of an event, but if I don't hear from you, you will be marked as a no-show. No-shows are unfair to people on the waitlist, to restaurants, and to me. Please call or text me at 917-837-4504 with any last-minute issues or cancellations.
- MEETUP SETTINGS: To assure the best Meetup experience, make sure you are receiving notifications of new events, changes to events, cancellations of events, comments, etc. If you don't have your settings on for these email or push notifications, you might miss important information unless you go to Meetup and look at our group page (which you should do often if you have an upcoming event).
- Log into meetup.com. I believe you have to be on the website, not the app, to choose these settings. You can access the website on your computer or phone via your browser.
- Click the three horizontal lines or three dots in the upper left or right of the group page, or the down arrow next to your photo. These may be different on Apple/Android/PC.
- Select "Settings."
- Select "Email Updates." You can select any or all of the "Updates from Meetup," which relate to the Meetup organization, not from any groups. You probably want to be notified when someone sends you a message, and possibly of suggested events based on your interests (which you can select further down in the settings list).
- Scroll down to "Updates About Your Groups." I recommend you select at least the following:
- New event announcements
- My RSVP is confirmed
- Changes to event time or location
- New comments & chat messages
- Event reminders
- Event updates from organizers
- Announcement to members about the group
I welcome event suggestions, feedback and ratings (visit the event page), and any tips on how I can improve our group! I look forward to some good times with you!
