Hot Springs NP: Northwoods Hike

Let's explore the Northwoods hike and bike park in a section of Hot Springs city just beyond the National Park. These multi-use trails are popular for bikers and hikers alike. Second visit for me, so probably more orienting than our local hikes in The Woodlands. Meet at the Northwoods Trailhead parking lot at 9:00 AM.

Planned route in photos as well as section from brochures for an overview. Trails are rugged Ozark Mountain natural trails. While multi-use, they are bike oriented and you will need to navigate some features. Boots and poles recommended!

This is open to all, but is part of a long weekend visit to Hot Springs by members hiking groups out of Houston. We are amateur hikers who enjoy visiting new locations around the world and favorites all around the Houston area and Texas in general. Check us out on Meetup if interested in more.

We'll be breaking camp before starting the hike, so please watch for updates even Monday morning if we need to adjust anything. That said, we will strive to start on time and follow the plan!

Caveats:
I am by no means a professional guide, so please be responsible for your own safety, be prepared to navigate on your own, and be physically able to enjoy the hiking. All levels of experience welcome, but be sure to inform us beforehand of any accommodations or particular interests and we'll go from there. I have no ego involved in the route or pace, so just keep me informed if you are faster or slower than the main body of the group or have suggestions.

Weather:
Average weather is pretty moderate in September, but be prepared! Temps usually range from low 70s at night to mid-80s daytime. Overcast or mostly cloudy about 40% of the time. Thunderstorms and lightening possible, so watch the weather forecasts! Semper preperavit!

Recommendations:
I always recommend plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen & insect repellent as a start. Maybe a light lunch since a long hike through the lunch hour.
