Let's start at the Neches Bluff end of the 4-C Trail in the Davy Crockett National Forest.

There's a nice bluff view and then we'll enter via the 4C National Recreation Trailhead on Google Maps. It's a nature trail with Forest coverage for about half and then onto Forest Service Roads to end up by the Neches Bluff Campground again. Planned Route is about 7.4 miles but options available too.

BTW, Neches Bluff is a free primitive camping site with a composting toilet, so you may want to prepare beforehand.

It's near the Mission Tejas SP and not far from Caddo Mounds State Historical Park. Optional after-hike tour of Caddo Mounts a possibility to consider too.

We are Shooting for 7.4 miles but will go as far as a time of 3 hours and our inclinations permit.

PS: MeetUp has a glitch and is calling the Meetup point by the name of a different area nearby. Neches Bluff Campground will get you there !

Caveats:

I am by no means a professional guide, so please be responsible for your own safety, be prepared to navigate on your own, and be physically able to enjoy the hiking. All levels of experience welcome, but be sure to inform us beforehand of any accommodations or particular interests and we'll go from there. I have no ego involved in the route or pace, so just keep me informed if you are faster or slower than the main body of the group or have other suggestions.

Weather:

Average weather is pretty moderate in April, but be prepared! Temps usually range from low 50s at night to high-70s daytime. Overcast or mostly cloudy about 40% of the time. Thunderstorms and lightening possible, so watch the weather forecasts!

Semper preperavit!

Recommendations:

I always recommend plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen & insect repellent as a start.
Check out hiking guidelines online for other suggestions if you are new to hiking or need a refresher. I would download the map and/or have a paper back up if you are cautious, too!

Courtesies:

Edit your RSVP! I would rather have more people show up than have delays waiting for those who don't. Please don't sign up if you are tentative; just show up! If you do need to cancel, please edit your RSVP asap!

Communicate!

Things happen! If you experience delays, comment or dm and keep us informed. This holds for during events, too. We will adjust or accommodate whenever possible.

Be sure to have your Explorer hat on!

Please Note

  • Bring your own drinking water.
  • Insect repellant is recommended for mosquitoes.
  • There are no restroom facilities outside of the meeting point and that's a primitive one!
  • The path is not wheel-chair accessible.
  • Primitive camping is available.

This is part of a camping trip in it's own Meetup, but all welcome. Be sure to watch for any changes as the time approaches, but we'll do our best to match the plan.

Please go your own paces and have fun!
